CIDA provides funding to UN-HABITAT for the Governance and Development Support Programme that supports municipal governance programming in the cities of Kandahar and Spin Boldak. CIDA funding helps build the institutional capacity of the Kandahar municipal government. It also assists the municipality in establishing a revenue generating and management system, helps improve mechanisms and practices for service delivery to citizens, particularly through the establishment of urban Community Development Councils, as well as addresses the most vital needs of the population, with a particular focus on water and sanitation. In addition, UN-HABITAT is developing a city profile and a strategic municipal action plan as well as implementing key priority projects for the population in the city of Spin Boldak.
