Project description:The Canadian International Development Agency’s (CIDA) contribution to the World Bank’s Education Quality Improvement Project (EQUIP) is helping to increase:
- The quality of education in Afghanistan.
- The number of female students who attend school.
- Access to Afghanistan’s schools.
This project is Afghanistan’s largest national education program, funded by the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund. The project supports activities that:
- Strengthen teaching and learning activities in schools and communities.
- Invest in human resources (such as teachers, principals, and educational administration personnel) and physical facilities.
- Reinforce the ability of schools, district education departments, provincial education departments, and the Ministry of Education to work effectively.

Afghanistan's National Education Plan aims to boost the country’s employment opportunities through training linked to improving job skills.

Progress to date:The Education Quality Improvement Project (EQUIP) has achieved the following significant results:
- It has successfully established about 3,200 School Committees in communities across the country, which has improved the public’s involvement in Afghanistan’s educational system.
- It has financed the construction of more than 800 schools.
- It has trained over 100,000 teachers and principals.
