The International Legal Foundation-Afghanistan (ILF-A) provides high-quality criminal defence to indigents across Afghanistan. Initially established in August 2003 by the New York-based International Legal Foundation (ILF), ILF-A is funded by CIDA under a project spanning from June 2007 to March 2010. The primary objective of the project is to provide high-quality free legal aid services on a national scale to individuals who are unable to pay for legal representation. The International Criminal Defence Attorneys Association is the principal contractor with CIDA and provides the ILF with reporting expertise and Canadian experts who provide training and other types of assistance to the ILF-A lawyers.
