CIDA supports the War Child led Afghan Women’s Community Support Project (AWCSP), which aims to improve the well-being of vulnerable women and their families in the cities of Kabul and Jalalabad by:

• Strengthening livelihood opportunities of Afghan women.
• Providing basic education to Afghan women and their pre-school-aged children.
• Contributing to the psycho-social well-being of Afghan women.
• Enhancing the institutional capacity of the Afghan Women’s Council by improving their expertise, technical proficiency, and programming and management competencies for delivering vocational training and micro-credit programming.

This is achieved by providing Afghan women with the basic education, vocational skills, and microfinance training they need to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs, and offering participating women small loans and ongoing professional and peer support to enable them to launch their own small businesses.
