CARE Canada’s Kabul Widows Humanitarian Assistance project has been responding to the immediate needs of the most vulnerable widows in Kabul. Since the project’s inception in 1997, it has:

• Provided monthly food rations.
• Provided life skills and health education to thousands of widows and their families.
• Improved the quality of life of vulnerable women and their families in Kabul through food assistance and integrated social support services.
• Provided vocational training and support activities to assist vulnerable widows and their dependents so they can generate modest incomes and become self-sufficient.
• Decreased the incidence of disease among widows and their children by offering health, nutrition and sanitation education.

The Kabul Widows Humanitarian Assistance Project has achieved the following significant results to date:

• 9 savings and credit groups established with 10-15 participants in each.
• 120 widows able to generate an income through livestock developments.
