Project description:CARE Canada’s Kabul Widows Humanitarian Assistance project has been responding to the immediate needs of the most vulnerable widows in Kabul. Since the project’s inception in 1997, it has:
- Provided monthly food rations.
- Provided life skills and health education to thousands of widows and their families.
- Improved the quality of life of vulnerable women and their families in Kabul through food assistance and integrated social support services.
- Provided vocational training and support activities to assist vulnerable widows and their dependents so they can generate modest incomes and become self-sufficient.
- Decreased the incidence of disease among widows and their children by offering health, nutrition and sanitation education.
Progress to date:The Kabul Widows Humanitarian Assistance Project has achieved the following significant results to date:
- 9 savings and credit groups established with 10-15 participants in each.
- 120 widows able to generate an income through livestock developments.
