Food Aid to Vulnerable Families *Current phase: 2006-2009

Project description:With Canadian support, the World Food Programme (WFP) delivers food aid to vulnerable people and populations, including families affected by drought, civilians affected by conflict or disaster, refugees who have returned to the country, and persons who are internally displaced.
The WFP provides food aid through general food distribution and through food-for-work as well as providing food-for-education and food-for-health programs. It also provides emergency food assistance.
Progress to date:The Food Aid to Vulnerable Families project has achieved the following significant results to date:
- In 2007, the WFP assisted more than six million Afghans.
- That same year, Canadian funds enabled the World Food Programme to distribute food aid to more than 550,000 persons in Kandahar province.
