Statement by Minister Baird on Assassination of Haji Fazluddin Agha

(January 13, 2012) Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement on the assassination of Haji Fazluddin Agha, District Governor of Panjwaii, and members of his family and retinue:

“Canada condemns this cowardly and senseless act of violence.

“District Governor Agha was a strong voice for the people of Panjwaii. He was considered an ally of Canada and will be remembered for his tireless work to bring peace and prosperity to his district and the entire country.

“This is a great loss for the people of Afghanistan. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
