December 5, 2011 - Bonn, Germany - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird Attends the International Conference on Afghanistan in Bonn, Germany, on December 5, 2011.

Canada is fully committed until 2014 to support the transition process in Afghanistan. "We will continue to work with the Afghan government and our international partners to strengthen the institutions required for Afghanistan to assume lead responsibility for its government and development," said Minister Baird in his address at Bonn, adding that effective and transparent governance were key elements for successful transition.

Canada also supports Afghanistan’s ambitions to leverage its position as a regional economic hub for commerce, transit and energy corridors and to develop its mining sector.
