Canada’s Ambassador to Afghanistan William Crosbie on June 8 presented certificates to 32 Afghan youths - including six women - who completed a three-month photography course funded by the Government of Canada, as part of Canada’s continuing efforts to support the country’s growing media industry.
Ambassador Crosbie addresses graduates of a
three-month photography course taught by
AINA Photo Agency.
The course, taught by the Afghan non-governmental organization AINA Photo Agency, taught the youths the basics of professional photography, including composition, field techniques and usage of Photoshop.
“During this course, the students documented the lives of Afghans in Kabul, as well as in the cities of Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, and Jalalabad, providing a glimpse into the daily challenges and joys that Afghans experience,” said Ambassador Crosbie. “Canada is pleased to support these aspiring photojournalists and other Afghan media to help them tell these stories to their fellow Afghans and to the rest of the world.”
A selection of the students’ work will be published in a book in July and will be featured in an exhibition to be held from mid-July to mid-August at the Queen’s Palace in Kabul’s Bagh-e Babur Garden.
