On June 4th, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Canada Jawed Ludin, Deputy Minister of International Trade Louis Lévesque and Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gérald Cossette, jointly unveiled a commemorative Cedar patayi screen to mark the efforts of all Canadian civilians who have contributed to progress in our engagement in Afghanistan.
DFAIT commissioned the production of this carved cedar patayi screen designed by artisan Nasir Monsoori of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, an exquisite work of art, incorporating Kufic and Shekast calligraphy to be displayed in the lobby of the Lester B. Pearson Building in Ottawa.
The Government of Canada is proud to support the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that was established in 2006 in order to revive Afghanistan's traditional crafts, and to regenerate Murad Khane, a historic area of Kabul's old city known for its rich cultural heritage.
